AVENUE OF LOSS (1998)

This sculpture deals with a lack of communication and language skills.

A hearing mother is reaching for her daughter who she sees as going down the drain because of her desire to learn ASL.

The mother's non-communicative hand turns into a tree limb. The girl dreams and wishes into t he doll spiraling down a dark drain.

The mother is caught in a snow drift. Frozen language. Cold winter.

The young girl is rushing ever faster from the mother by the netting current.
